Midland Bull/Treasure Test

We are again performance-testing some of our top bull calves at the Midland Bull Test in Columbus, Montana, and at the Treasure Bull Test in Simms, Montana. Below are the different bulls at each test and sale dates for each test.

Midland Bull Test

Sale date April 10, 2009

GPAR Gentle Ben U76
16076413
Birth weight 79 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 754 lbs.
This easy-going calf is a blend of two of our favorite “cowmakers” (Expectation and Rito 6I6) tracing to the great GAR New Design M249 cow who is responsible for our past successes at this bull test. This mating is to us a logical extension of the legendary EXT x 6807 cross, but with more performance.

GPAR In Focus U72
16076409
Birth weight 82 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 707 lbs.
An In Focus out of an Expectation daughter of the M249 cow, whose In Focus son last year was the high-indexing calving-ease bull at Midland. We like our Expectation females so well that we bred to him again this past year.

GPAR In Focus U75
16076412
Birth weight 72 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 705 lbs.
This calf and the following lot are full-brothers-in-blood out of full sisters by New Design 1407, and their dam by SAF Fame is also the dam of the Midland 5271 calf below.

GPAR In Focus U83
16076420
Birth weight 82 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 788 lbs.
Our heaviest weaning weight bull calf this year and a standout all summer with impressive muscling, depth, and scrotal development.

GPAR 5271 Midland U92
16076427
Birth weight 76 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 752 lbs.
This March son of our high Marb and $B herd sire, VAR Midland 5271, is a very stout-made, moderate-framed calf. His dam, GAR Fame 4599, is all you could ask for phenotypically- deep, thick, sound and clean with an excellent udder, and her production ratios earned here and at GAR are outstanding across the board: BR 7@98; NR 7@104; YR 4@101; IMF 4@108; RE 4@102.

Treasure Bull Test

Sale date April 13, 2009

GPAR Solution U78
16076415
Birth weight 83 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 702 lbs.
The Solution calves have performed well for us on test, with the top ADG (tie) and the 7th highest ADG for us on the two we sent here last year. This bull is one of the stouter sons of Solution you’ll see.

GPAR Corona U88
16084787
Birth weight 78 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 717 lbs.
A calf with a lot of eye-appeal to complement his strong performance and his mild disposition. His dam by Rito 6I6 stems from the great Thomas donor, Lucy 1041.

GPAR 208 New Design U106
16081079
Birth weight 70 205 adjusted weight 640 lbs.

GPAR 208 New Design U107
16081080
Birth weight 80 205 adjusted weight 681 lbs.

GPAR 208 New Design U109
16081082
Birth weight 80 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 605 lbs.

GPAR 208 New Design U110
16081083
Birth weight 87 lbs. 205 adjusted weight 741 lbs.

These sons of Bon View New Design 208 are flush brothers out of our former donor, G P A Enchantress 799L, the powerful Twin Valley Precision E161 female who is the dam of the top-gaining bull (tie) here at Treasure Test last year, selling to Harrer’s Lost Lake Ranch. Their individual weights were no doubt influenced by their recipient dams, but all four should be excellent calving-ease bulls with strong growth and carcass traits as well.

Bon View New Design 208 will see continued use in our program because of his combination of birth to growth spread, docility excellence and high $W and $B values.
